ANIM1003 Drawing for Animators and Illustrators - Week 9 (21/11/2011)

This week in Drawing we focused on depicting a character through the use if a descriptive text, since as illustrators if we are ever commissioned to design a character we will typically be given a short description to work from.

As part of our homework from last week we had to prepare 10 A2 sheets of paper with light coloured ink blots of various shapes and sizes.

In addition to this we were also given a list of images to collect an put into a mood board, here is mine below.

In the lesson we proceded to use said ink blots and mood board as guides to draw aspects of a character that had been described to us.

The description stated that the character had a long fox like face with a floppy hat that has a long rim and various feathers attached to it. I ended up drawing an actual fox but I rather like it.

It also stated that they had a flute or shepherd's pipe in one hand, I drew this rather cool flute that looked like it had been carved out of a stick.

It said that they had thing wrists with strings of cotton tied to their fingers with rose beetles on the ends.

It also siad they had some bamboo cages with chickens and pigeons in them. I draw this tied together cage so it looked like it had been roughly made :).

It also said that they wore pointy shoes with pom poms on the ends very similar to the ones greek guard wear.

I didn't manage to get a whole lot done as I couldn't draw anything i was happy with that often happens when I see other peoples works and think they are better then mine. it's really a stupid way to think of it, I should know better then to let that kind of thing get to me.

Well thats all for now, thanks for reading :)

ANIM1003 Drawing for Animators and Illustrators - Sketch Book Task Week 8 (20/11/2011)

Here is my work and my thoughts on the sketch book task for week 8.

The task itself was to create 3 images the same that had been done last week only this time to use the printing method we had been experimenting with in that weeks lesson.

First is my face, I kind of like how it came out although it doesn't look to much like me the beard is a little bushier then my own and the hair looks more like some kind of cap or hat.

Next is my hand...all i have to say on this one is I wish I had done it completely different, I really don't like the solid black look.

Last we have my foot and as you can see after not being happy with my last pint I tried a different approach, I like the further detail and texture it has but again its not as great as I would have liked, I should really choose the things I print with moth carefully.

Well thats all for now, thanks for reading :).

ANIM1003 Drawing for Animators and Illustrators - Week 8 (14/11/2011)

Today in my lecture we started by going over the sketch book collage assignment and the results of our work.

Mine were ok but due to me only doing them this morning they weren't as good as I would like them to be.

After a short and early break we got on with the lessons main task which was print making.

Here is my work.

First we started of my trying out some different objects to print with.

Next we tried to print a portrait of the person sitting oposite us.

Since I had some time left I just did a random one of my friend sitting next to me, he kind of looks like a lego man xD.

I'm not to happy with these, I wish I had prepared more in regards to gathering things to print with.

Well thats all for now, thanks for reading :3.

ANIM1003 Drawing for Animators and Illustrators - Sketch Book Task Week 7 (14/11/2011)

For this weeks sketch book task we were told to create 3 collages of our face, hand and foot.

Here is my work.

Above is my collage for the task "Face" at least my interpretation :3.

Here is my collage for the task "Hand".

Finally here is my collage for the task "Foot".

They are ok but I would like to have spent more time on them to make them a little better :)

Well thats all for now, thanks for reading :).

ANIM1001 Animation Origin and Function Week 7 (7/11/2011)

In The lesson we stent the first half going over the sketches we had drawn during reading week, after that we got on with this lessons main task, Collage.

We were pair up with a partner and had to collage each others face using a variety of things.

Here is my work.

While some went for a more realistic look I took a much more abstract approach using any colour for any part but still trying to make it resemble my partner.

I think I did somewhat well, I'm not much of a collage artist I'm much more of an illustrator but I like how this came out :).

Thats all for now, thanks for reading :).

Reading/Learning Week - Cathedral Week 4 Final Week (7/11/2011)

So for reading week I was assigned some final tasks at the cathedral.

Here is my work.

The above sketch was for task which asked us to do a continuous line drawing on 2 pieces of A2 paper stuck together.

Here is another sketch of the Cathedral tower.

And Finally here is a sketch of the cathedral crypt (not as interesting as you would expect).

Now I'm not to happy with any of these as they were all incredibly rushed, I would like to go back to them some time and make them better.

Thats all for now, thanks for reading.

Reading/Learning Week - Sketch Book Task Week 5 & 6 (6/11/2011)

I was also assigned some sketch book tasks to do over reading week.

Here they are.

Above is my sketch for the task "Tree" it was night so I had trouble finding a reference so I ended up drawing this almost cartoony looking tree here.

Here is my sketch for the task "Newspaper".

Here is my sketch for the task "Cotton" I didn't have anything cotton so I just drew something that can be made of cotton.

Here is my sketch for the task "Tea".

Finally here is my sketch for the task "Field".

Again I didn't have a lot of references for these sketches which is why they seem somewhat cartoony.

Thats all for now, thanks for reading :).

Reading/Learning Week - "What is Drawing" Essay (5/11/2011)

Over Reading Week I had to complete a 1000 word essay on how different people within the creative arts community use drawing to communicate.

I didn't have to much trouble with it and managed to complete it in a few hours.

I went over a little bit of drawing history such as the palaeolithic cave art, egyptian art, medieval art and art in modern times.

I then talked about a couple of artists new and old and how they communicate their ideas through drawing.

We handed them in on monday (7/11/2011) for review and will have them back along with notes on how we can improve them.

Well thats all for now :).

ANIM1003 Drawing for Animators and Illustrators - Cathedral Week 3 Completion (24/10/2011)

Here is my work and my thoughts for Cathedral week 3.

Above are the 12 thumb nails I did of various things in the cathedral, this was for task 1.

This one was for taks 2 a continuous like sketch.

This one was my attempts at a silhouette for task 3 think I should have done some detail to help define what it was.

This was for task 4 which was to do a sketch using various tones to reprisent the lighter and darker areas of an object.

This was for task 5 another silhouette like task.

This one was another continuous like sketch, this time of a cool looking lion statue that was at the feet of another statue.

This one was for task 7 which was to sketch an image using different marks and no outlines.

This was my sketch for task 8 part of a pillar.

This was for task 9 another silhouette sketch and another window.

And here is my final sketch for this week at the cathedral, no having to go back and finish off work this week :). This is a large portion of the floor with the various tile patterns.

Well that all for now keep checking back for more updates. :)

ANIM1003 Drawing for Animators and Illustrators - Cathedral Week 2 Completion (23/10/2011)

Here are the final 2 sketches for my 2rd week at worcester cathedral.

Here is a sketch of the angel statue outside the cathedral for the 30 minute continuous line task. Didn't go as well as I would have liked.

Here is the final sketch for this task sheet, this one of the cathedral itself from a distance. I did this from a near by bridge. I quite like this one.

Well thats all for now really need to start getting these out on time instead of a week or so later :/.
